Abstract

Several allografts processed through the tissue banking industry have various capacities of reconstruction of bone. The biological function of processed bone can be impacted by many factors including particle size, processing parameters and inclusion/exclusion of mineral and moisture etc. For example, Freeze drying offers a safe and economical means of packaging, shipping, storage, and preservation of homologous bones. Demineralization of cortical bone via hydrochloric acid produces a uniform demineraized surface with osteoinduction capacity. The object of this study was to evaluate the processing methods of allogenic bone and to identify processed materials for recipient site. It is important to understand the biological and biomechanical healing of different types of allografts so that the right choice of allogenic bone is used for each clinical application in order to achieve a successful outcome for alveolar bone reconstruction in dental surgery.
